Bror (Brother) |
Khalid is an Iranian-born Muslim living in Sweden. Khalid very much wants to take his friendship with Nico to a new level of intimacy, but Nico (much moreso than Khalid) is terrified by what their friends, their families, and random passing strangers might think and do, seeing two men together in Stockholm. They talk round and round in circles, weighing Love versus Fear. Which way will they land? Highly recommended. • IMDb •
Reforma (Renovation) |
Flávia is trying to renovate the apartment her husband just bought, but the contractor was a no-show, so Francisco comes over to help a bit with paint and wallpaper, but also to fill her in on his love life, a series of unfulfilling one-night stands. Francisco is a large man, and feels that his size gets in the way of a more lasting connection, but he’s conflicted about losing weight. Will he find the man who loves him as he is, and maybe even make it to a second date? My viewing was hampered by technical glitches with the streaming platform, but that shouldn’t be a problem for the festival screening. Interesting and thought-provoking, highly recommended. • IMDb • sexually explicit •
Delivery Boy (外賣仔) |
To be sure, the protagonist certainly is cute. But eye candy is far from the only reason to watch this delightful film. Cheuk Piu Champi Lo (as ChunHo) deftly captures the roller coaster of emotions of a young man in love, with heart, wit, and a disco beat. The script fuses timeless themes of love and class differences with a vibrant new story, and the director nailed the pacing. Definitely a MUST SEE.

Elliott (Luke Elliott) is a Scottish drag queen. A chance encounter leads to a hookup with Jack, but Jack is more interested in Masc4Masc than Masc4Mascara. The two of them dance around one another, begin to connect, and finally hook up, but each has a hidden agenda. Well done, recommended.

Σπινθηροβολα Κερακια (Sparkling Candles) |
A young man is preparing a sexy surprise for his boyfriend on their third anniversary, involving far more candles than clothes, but his nerves and various outside complications threaten to wreck his plans. Will the magical evening be ruined? Highly recommended.

Isha |
Rahmi is leading a double life, closeted, in love with an outsider, but constrained by family ties. The big twist is that Rahmi is a Romanian Muslim living in London, with a younger brother seemingly more intent on fitting in with the locals than on keeping peace in the family. Very well done, highly recommended.
