Emilý is a “content creator,” making videos and selling used panties online, but she also has a day job in a record store. She deals with noisy neighbors (ruining her ASMR videos), trolls (but not the cute mythical kind), a 15-year-old co-worker who might spill some beans, and having her mother manage her finances. She has a long-distance relationship with Katinka, who is safely in Poland, thousands of kilometres away, with occasional work-related visits to Iceland (Katinka is a geologist). But Katinka is considering moving to Iceland and wants to get more serious, being exclusive, which Emilý isn’t sure she’s ready for quite yet.
It’s an interesting story, exploring some of the new challenges for Gen Z coming of age in a world of ubiquitous phones, online connections much easier than IRL, global climate change, and much more. Emilý is relatable and funny, and, by conventional standards, beautiful and sexy. (The on-screen sexy scenes get a little steamy, but nothing overtly explicit, although there are discussions of sex acts.) The story moves along, interweaving its plot threads seamlessly. If thorns Þþ and eths Ðð get your blood moving, this is your film. Highly recommended.
