Lilio, Quentin, and Lucas |
Lucas (Paul Kircher, pictured right) is 16 years old, living in southeastern France, going to boarding school during the week but home for the weekends, confident and openly gay. His world is turned upside down by a sudden death in the family. His brother Quentin (Vincent Lacoste, center) suggests that Lucas come spend a week with him in Paris, but Lucas has more work to do to come to terms with the realities of his life. Director Christophe Honoré has a small on-screen role as Lucas and Quentin’s father, and Juliette Binoche (Hana in The English Patient) is their mother.
Kircher delivers an excellent performance, matched by the other major characters, as we find ourselves swept along in the story. It is definitely a MUST SEE, especially for fans of the “gay coming-of-age” genre. One content advisory: there is a brief scene of self-harm.
