Carpobrotus

Three friends, Maxime (writer/director Simon Frenay, pictured right), Yann (Erwan Kepoa Falé, pictured left), and Laura (Juliette Savary) take a holiday on a small Mediterranean island. Maxime is in love with Yann, but unsure of Yann’s feelings. He tries to suss out where Yann stands, but of course is far less subtle than he thinks he is. The lines between dream and reality get blurred, with Maxime and his desire hanging in the balance.

Simon Frenay’s previous film 💖 Youssou & Malek (Frameline47) was marvelous, visually beautiful, heartfelt, with a clear story arc. Carpobrotus is not quite as strong a work, with much less of a clear story, although it is still visually beautiful and heartfelt, so Highly recommended.
