Gender Reveal |
Frameline blurb: Rhys, a dedicated people pleaser, winds up at their boss’ gender reveal party with their two partners. The trans throuple soon realize that they are dealing with more than they were prepared for and their ability to survive the event comes into question.
The mother-to-be starts off on the wrong foot with soe well-intentioned but severely cringey comments. Rhys almost has to physically restrain their partners from endangering their job, but then the whole thing goes haywire.
The dialogue is mostly in English, with a few bits of French with English subtitles. A couple of signs in French that weren’t translated: Dévoile entrejambe = crotch reveal; Un petit zizi = a small penis.
It’s cute and silly and definitely over the top, although a bit clunky in execution in a few parts. Still, highly recommended.

Girlfriend Girlfriend |
Frameline blurb: A queer woman's mind is blown by her new coworker's bold question in this experimental short film.
The film begins with a disclaimer: “The following is based on true events; any likeness to individuals is intentional.” It’s also a whole new take on “scissors.” Cute, imaginative, and well done, highly recommended.

Homolita |
Frameline blurb: Set at an idyllic summer literary retreat, Homolita is an erotic comedy about the pratfalls and pitfalls of modern queer dating and the enduring legacy of Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita. Written, directed, and starring Jude Dry (👍 Monsieur Le Butch, Frameline46).
A recently acquainted couple talk literature and social issues and broader issues of life, over a picnic, but some of the (many!) awkward moments in the conversation resurface later in the intimacy of the bedroom. Are these two people too much on different wavelengths to make a real connection? Heartfelt and thought-provoking. Highly recommended.

Poreless |
Frameline blurb: A fabulous, queer, Muslim beauty entrepreneur competes in a Shark Tank-like contest after suffering an untimely allergic reaction. Directed by Harris Doran (👏 F^¢k 'Em R!ght B@¢k, Frameline46) and co-written by Fawzia Mirza (💖 Queen of My Dreams, Frameline48).
It’s cute, witty, and fun, with a little bit of social commentary, too. Highly recommended.

Space Daddy |
Frameline blurb: Space Daddy is a comedy about a hookup between twentysomething twink Andy and a mysterious hunk (played by Crystal from Drag Race UK) he meets on the dating app Strangr — with some … out-of-this-world consequences.
Andy meets up with his bestie for a cuppa, to tell her about the wild week he’s had, with a remarkable hookup, and that’s only the beginning of the story.
Best line: Andy says, “When I get to his place, it was, like, [ominous music] totally normal. [ominous music]” It’s cute, well done, and fun, highly recommended.

Sweet Talkin’ Guy |
Frameline blurb: A trans woman goes on three consecutive dates with straight men. As the men grapple with their fragile masculinity, their sexual identity unravels in a frantic monologue — ironically delivered to the object of their desire.
Written, co-directed, and starring Miss Dylan, who clearly draws from personal experience. The men she dates say some painfully cringey things, making it a little difficult to watch at times, but she keeps her cool and goes with the flow (although I’d be surprised if any of the guys get a second date). It’s a valuable bit of insight into the pitfalls of dating as a trans woman. Definitely a must see.

Teth |
Frameline blurb: Following surgery, Ioan and his father adapt to their new relationship as father and son, that is until the dog mistakes a nipple for a chew toy.
In the original Welsh: Yn dilyn llawdriniaeth, mae Ioan a’i dad yn addasu i’w perthynas newydd fel tad a mab, hynny yw nes bod y ci yn camgymryd teth am degan cnoi.
Ioan is freshly home from top surgery. His dog mistakes his nipple graft for a chew toy, and things go wild from there, eventually involving a packer, a nasty transphobic vicar, and a hunky Jesus.
It’s fun and pretty well done, filling a niche for LGBTQ+ films in Welsh, but don’t worry, it’s subtitled, except the few bits of English. Highly recommended.
