Encuentro, dir. Florencia Manóvil, 2017
see my review from Frameline 41; Highly recommended.

Loss, Deal
Loss, Deal, dir. Alma H. Pazmino, 2017
In this visual tone poem, a woman grieves for a lost loved one. There is neither dialogue nor narration, just an interweaving of scenes of her present-day life with memories of the connection she once had. Well done, Recommended.

Reality Fragment 160921
Reality Fragment 160921, dir. Jasmine + April (Qigemu) Lin, 2018
Someone in Los Angeles sends a bunch of video clips about Tóngzhìài (同志爱) (gay love) and a tree named Chengzhanshou to someone in Stockholm. It’s intriguing to watch, not least because it is subtitled throughout in both English and Chinese, but I didn’t really follow it very well. Recommended.

Foxy Strikes Back
Foxy Strikes Back, dir. Gabrielle Wilson-Sealy & Kei X. Griot (Beyondeep Productions), 2018
Two African American QTIPOCs reclaim the motifs of 1970s Blaxploitation films in a sexually explicit BDSM role play, with more than a little humor to lighten the mood. With the obvious caveat that this film is not for everyone, highly recommended.

This film contains explicit kinky sexual content.

Mariposa
Mariposa, dir. Candy Guinea, 2017
A queer Latinx couple decide to have a baby, but actually getting pregnant via artificial insemination turns out to be more labyrinthine than they ever imagined. We watch the process unfold in documentary footage taken as they make repeated attempts and begin to wonder if it will ever happen. (Spoiler alert: they now have a baby, named Mariposa!) We follow the emotional anticipation with each attempt and laugh along with the couple as they keep a sense of humor for the duration, knowing they will eventually succeed. Well done, highly recommended.

Amigas with Benefits
Amigas with Benefits, dir. Adelina Anthony, 2017
Two women in assisted living have fallen in love and decide to get married, but one of them has some family issues to sort out first. The bond of their love is strong enough to see them through, never mind the naysayers. Touching and funny, definitely a highlight, highly recommended.
