Beach Logs Kill

Male homoeroticism in American football ๐Ÿˆ is familiar territory, but lesbian eroticism in a full-tackle all-female football at a coed high school is novel. Unfortunately, Beach Logs Kill loses its impact beneath multiple layers of unexplained mysticism, with characters who make very little sense. It was interesting, but didn’t really leave much in its wake. An okay film, but definitely in the category of “recommended, I guess.”

Bold Eagle

A series of bizarre, disjointed images — and THEN it goes on an acid trip. It’s mostly a man alone with his cat in his apartment, with frequent cuts to the cat just doing ordinary things, so you might say it’s a softcore gay porn film with lots of ๐Ÿฑ. The sexual images fail to be sexy. You might enjoy this film if you, too, are tripping on acid, but probably not even then. Not recommended.

Contains sexually explicit material, for some reason.

A Brazilian and an American tourist meet at a lakeside park. Eventually they go to the cruisy area of the park. Vinagre’s previous film, Trรชs Tigres Tristes, was weird and trippy, but fun and interesting. This entry is just weird and repulsive. Not recommended.

Du Bist so Wunderbar
(Paradise Europe)

A Brazilian immigrant in Berlin is desperately looking for a room, meeting all sorts of random people interviewing for roommates. He eventually finds a roommate for the night, so to speak. I really couldn’t relate. I’ve never lived paycheck-to-paycheck in a country where I barely speak the language, but I also didn’t feel like I gained any insight into that experience. The desperation of looking for housing overwhelmed any possibility of sexiness. Not recommended.

Contains sexually explicit material.

A freelance music journalist writes about a superstar he says is queerbaiting, so the star’s creepy, obsessive fans track him to his aunt’s remote vacation home and torment him. Creepy thrillers aren’t my thing, but this one is well crafted, so if this is a genre you enjoy, you should check this one out. Recommended, with caveats.

Stink

A deranged stalker obsessively pursues his prey, eager to absorb their essence, ideally in the form of disgusting bodily fluids. If two or more consenting adults want to meet up in that realm, more power to them, but what we see in this short is completely one-sided and non-consensual. The filmmaker just indulges the creepiness, without in any way illuminating it. Definitely AVOID this one. Don’t walk, RUN away.
